I'm listening to it for the second time through, after reading the actual book in between. This recording is not a straight reading of the immense Russian novel, but instead a dramatic performance which follows the novel very closely. The cast of BBC actors who lend their voices to the audio "play" are just fabulous. The hundreds of characters and scenes in the book are slightly condensed in the BBC version, but I believe that the adaptation is true enough to satisfy War and Peace purists. Particularly appealing are the voices of Natasha, Andrei, and Denisov, as well as General Kutuzov.
